For about 300 years, Shirakawa Daruma Souhonpo has been caring for each and every customer and has been loved by local people.
Shirakawa Daruma was created as a lucky charm to bring good fortune, inspired by Matsudaira Sadanobu, famous for the Kansei Reforms, who wanted to "make the lives of citizens more vibrant."
Since ancient times, whenever people have wished for something, such as the health of their family, the prosperity of their company, passing high school or university entrance exams, or winning an election, Shirakawa Daruma has always been there, constantly supporting people's dreams and hopes.
The most distinctive feature of Shirakawa Daruma is that the face features the crane, turtle, pine, bamboo, and plum, which are symbols of good fortune, and the design is said to have been created by the famous artist Tani Buncho.
Also, when making a wish, there is a custom of first filling in the left eye of the Daruma doll, and then filling in the right eye once the wish is fulfilled.
