Echizen washi, one of Japan's three major washi papers, is a traditional craft of Fukui Prefecture with a history of approximately 1,500 years. While preserving tradition and techniques, the region produces a variety of washi papers that are suited to modern lifestyles. Echizen washi is an environmentally friendly material, as it does not use fluorescent agents to whiten the paper or sizing agents to prevent bleeding.
