The birth of Oasis, the iconic British rock band. A definitive photo book featuring iconic photographs by master Kevin Cummins and words by Noel Gallagher.
Acclaimed photographer Kevin Cummins, known for his work with Joy Division and Björk, captures the music and personality of Oasis through iconic images. Featuring many never-before-seen photos, this book explores the band's evolution to success!
This book contains rare and unreleased photos of Oasis during the turbulent 12 months leading up to their debut, as well as iconic images of the band shortly after their debut, many of which have never been seen before.
Kevin Cummins is a world-renowned photographer who has photographed numerous top artists, including Joy Division, Björk, and David Bowie.
In 1993, Oasis signed with Creation Records and began work on their debut album, Definitely Maybe. Kevin Cummins was hired to create a look that matched the band's sound, and he continued to capture their passionate early live shows and the youthful, intense energy that symbolized their musicality.
This book visually follows the evolution of the band and their path to global success, with photos of the brothers freshly dressed in their new clothes at Affleck's Palace in Manchester, life-size images of them in local pubs and on the streets, and even the brothers wearing Manchester City jerseys bearing the Brother logo.
Noel Gallagher himself comments on the photographs, sharing his thoughts on football, fashion and music, as well as reminiscing about the band's rise to fame. The book also includes cultural commentator Gail Crowther's insight into Oasis' influence, and rare testimony from Kevin Cummins.
Before the "Oasis success story" everyone knows, how did they establish their own identity and evolve into a band that changed the world? This book is the definitive record that reveals that "master plan."
How did Oasis come about?
What are the myriad elements that shape the sound, look and identity of a new band?
This is a must-read book for all music fans, as it witnesses the birth and evolution of Oasis.
