Party and romp. The second official Irish whiskey from The Pogues, drunken rebels and the greatest lyric poet of our time, Shane MacGowan. Released in the UK for Christmas 2019, this unique Irish single malt is infused with the rebellious spirit of Celtic punk.
Pogues Single Malt was born at the West Cork Distillery, the same distillery as the already released Pogues Blended Irish Whiskey. Located in the southernmost part of Ireland, it is a relatively new independent distillery that has been in operation since 2003. The climate in southern Ireland is literally ideal for whiskey aging, with high rainfall and high humidity due to the warm North Atlantic Current. The distillery is committed to using only fresh water from the springs of Ireland, the emerald island, and the highest quality locally grown barley, and is the only distillery in Ireland that produces its own malt. Pogues Single Malt was distilled in a small pot still developed in-house and aged in bourbon barrels.
The aroma is of violets and lavender. The aroma is sweet, reminiscent of roasted nuts and slightly salty chocolate. The taste is slightly woody and spicy with cinnamon. It has the flavors of chocolate-covered peanuts and sesame candy. You can also taste the gentle sweetness of nougat and marshmallow. The aftertaste is deep yet mellow, brought about by the cinnamon stick and caramel.
