A textbook for guitarists that uses famous phrases left by modern jazz legends to improve their improvisation phrasing and sense.
Even now, 50 years after his death, jazz legend John Coltrane continues to have a major influence on guitarists across a wide range of genres, including jazz musicians and rock musicians alike. This book is a beginner's guide to mastering jazz guitar using Coltrane's improvisational phrases as teaching materials.
The book includes tablature so that you can practice improvisation phrases from Coltrane's representative original songs, such as "Moments Notice," "Blue Train," "Impressions," and "Giant Steps," on the guitar, and explains the phrasing know-how. The accompanying CD contains the theme of each song and one or two choruses of improvisation. The parts that are not included are provided as reference examples.
Using the performances of Coltrane, who could be said to be the history of modern jazz itself, you will master the basics and applications of jazz guitar, from bebop to modal jazz.
