Masks have existed throughout the ages, sometimes as an artist's "alter ego," and sometimes as a device to shock people or a symbol of anonymity.
The book begins with the monumental beginning of the era, with the untold story of the birth of David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust, and follows in the footsteps of the "masked luminaries" who continue to provoke the scene through interviews and explanatory texts with 14 artists, including Marilyn Manson, Daft Punk, Slipknot, and Robert Smith.
