For about 300 years, Shirakawa Daruma Souhonpo has cared for each and every customer and has been loved by local people.
Shirakawa Daruma dolls were created as lucky charms to bring good fortune, inspired by Matsudaira Sadanobu, famous for the Kansei Reforms, who wanted to "make the lives of citizens more energetic."
Since ancient times, whenever people have wished for something, such as the health of their family, the prosperity of their company, passing high school or university entrance exams, or winning an election, Shirakawa Daruma has always been there, supporting people's dreams and hopes.
The most distinctive feature of Shirakawa Daruma is the depiction of the three symbols of good fortune - a crane, turtle, pine, bamboo and plum - on its face, and it is said that the design was done by the famous artist Tani Buncho.
Also, when making a wish, there is a custom of first filling in the left eye of the Daruma doll, and then filling in the right eye once the wish is fulfilled.
