Ceramic shrinks by about 14% from the time it is made to the time it is fired.
Ki-po is made by combining two pieces of fabric, one for the inside and one for the outside, into a single product. During this process, the speed of shrinkage varies depending on the shape and thickness of each piece, so fine adjustments to the manufacturing process are required for each piece depending on the shape and size. This also varies depending on the temperature, humidity, and hardness of the clay, so it is often left to the judgment of the craftsmen on site. The thickness of the fabric is also adjusted with an accuracy of less than 1 mm. Because this is a product that requires precision, much of it is formed by machine, but there are still many more things to keep in mind than with regular products. There were also various other challenges and processes involved. Due to the nature of the product, I cannot go into details, but by overcoming each one, we were finally able to commercialize and mass-produce it.
