Ceramics shrink by approximately 14% from the time they are made to the time they are fired. Because the speed of shrinkage varies depending on the thickness of the clay, fine adjustments to the manufacturing process are required for each piece, depending on the shape and size. This also depends on the temperature, humidity, and hardness of the clay at the time, so it is often left to the judgment of the craftsmen on-site. The thickness of the clay is also adjusted to an accuracy of less than 1 mm. Because this is a product that requires precision, much of it is formed by machine, but even so, there are far more considerations to be made than with regular products. There were various other challenges and processes involved. Due to the nature of the process, I cannot go into details, but by overcoming each one, we were finally able to commercialize and mass-produce the product.
